Perennial equivalent to nails on a chalkboard Houston Astros have signed Pudge Rodriguez to a one-year deal.
The 'stros are one of those teams that are always dead by the All-Star break yet compete for the division title by the end of the season. Most Cubs and Cardinals fans will probably greet this signing with a shrug of the shoulder. To me, this is huge.
This is a team that bounced their long-time backstop to make room for some young guys like JR Towles, but found themselves making little noise in the entire off-season. They've gone from practically no experienced catcher to a 14 time All-Star who is widely considered the best defensive catcher in all of baseball.
Not only that, he's leading team Puerto Rico in several offensive statistics right now, and starting over Geovany Soto and Yadier Molina. What a division of catchers we have now.
